Last Friday 13 August 2021, the government of the Netherlands decided to extend the measures against COVID-19. Following this announcement, we had long discussions with our local partner de Doelen in order to find a way to realise Classical:NEXT 2021 in accordance with the ongoing measures. Unfortunately, and with great regret, we have to announce that we are forced to cancel Classical:NEXT 2021 due to the current regulations in the Netherlands.
Official statement from de Doelen
“Following up on the announcements of the Dutch government on August 13, it is with heartfelt sadness that we currently do not see a legal basis to make Classical:NEXT 2021 happen in September. We are stuck on the ground that indoor events without assigned seats are not permitted, and that events lasting for several days, including business events with overnight stays, are not allowed up to and inclusive September 19. This makes it impossible for us to organise Classical:NEXT the way it should be.” We have done everything in our power to make Classical:NEXT 2021 happen (the postponed Classical:NEXT 2020) and are therefore all the sadder about the turn of events. We have worked hard to see elements of the programme happen online, such as the Innovation Award or the event series Classical:NEXT Encore, and we have conceived new programme elements to keep all delegates on the pulse of the global art music scene.
We are very thankful to everyone involved, for their cooperation, support and patience, and we are deeply apologetic for the difficulties that this cancellation might cause.
All the more reason for us to look forward to next year, when Classical:NEXT 2022 will welcome you to a new location in Germany. Mark your calendars already from 17-20 May 2022.

Please stay tuned and above all, healthy!
With warm wishes,
