Het gemêleerd samengestelde Marmoucha Orchestra bestaat uit bevlogen musici met een passie voor de muziektradities uit de SWANA (South West Asia North Africa). Hun nieuwste programma Old Signs – New Sounds neemt je mee op een avontuurlijke reis. Begeleid door spoken word & beeld volgen ze de Fenicische handelsroutes (1500-400 v.Chr) over de Middellandse Zee.
Puttend uit oude geschriften en muzieknotaties belichten ze de mystiek van antieke godinnen als Anahita, Ishtar en Tanit. Belichaamd door drie getalenteerde zangeressen die de rijkdom van de Marokkaanse, Iraanse en Turks/ Koerdische cultuur vertolken.
In hun fascinerende fusion van traditionele en hedendaagse muziek laat het Marmoucha Orchestra de klassieke historie met het heden vervloeien. Daarmee verlenen ze een nieuw klank aan de oeroude talen & tekens uit de Mediterrane regio. Dit nieuwe programma kwam tot stand in samenwerking met Old Roots New Routes.
The diverse Marmoucha Orchestra consists of inspired musicians with a passion for the musical traditions of SWANA (South West Asia North Africa). Their latest program Old Signs – New Sounds takes you on an adventurous journey. Accompanied by spoken word & images, they follow the Phoenician trade routes (1500-400 BC) across the Mediterranean Sea.
Drawing on ancient writings and musical notations, they illuminate the mysticism of ancient goddesses such as Anahita, Ishtar and Tanit. Embodied by three talented singers who interpret the richness of Moroccan, Iranian and Turkish/Kurdish culture.In their fascinating fusion of traditional and contemporary music, the Marmoucha Orchestra blends classical history with the present. In doing so, they lend a new sound to the ancient languages & signs of the Mediterranean region. This new program came about in collaboration with Old Roots New Routes.

Dit concert is onderdeel van de serie Old Roots New Routes met avontuurlijke formaties die vanuit hun old roots met Nederlandse zielsverwanten new routes inslaan. Ze betreden nieuwe paden met muziek uit alle windstreken die – geworteld in oude culturele tradities – vandaag tot de verbeelding spreken.‘Sprookjesachtig, genre-overstijgend, bevlogen, een ontmoeting van religieuze en muzikale tradities’ typeren het thema Verbeelding & Verbinding waarin de vrouwelijke stem centraal staat.
