NAI BARGHOUTI & FRIENDS – UNHEARD
Singer, composer and flautist Nai Barghouti has previously performed for sold-out venues in London, Paris, Beirut and Detroit, among other. Now she will perform for the second time at our stage. At a very young age she already managed to wow audiences with her interpretation of Arabic songs. Critics have called her a ‘classical diva’ and compared her to legendary singers such as Fairuz and Umm Kulthum. Since coming to Amsterdam she has celebrated remarkable success: in 2021 she won the Concertgebouw Young Talent Award, in 2022 she released her debut album Nai 1, and in 2023 she scored a global hit with DJ/producer Skrillex on the acclaimed track ‘Xena’.
The new group around Nai Barghouti was founded in Amsterdam and combines various styles of playing, from jazz to Arabic. Khalil Khoury is a prize-winning player of the qanun, the zither-like instrument. Jazz pianist Tony Roe has previously played on our stage with Tin Men & The Telephone. Percussionist Ruven Ruppik has collaborated with major artists from various cultures such as Paco Peña and Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia. And like Nai Barghouti herself, bass guitarist Diego Alva studied at Conservatorium van Amsterdam.
