World Blend Café Moroccan Moods @ Injazz
“Change brings new opportunities” says inJazz general manager Ikaros van Duppen. Indeed, a change of view for instance on the origins of jazz. Historians like Francesco Martinelli show how its keywords ‘jam’and ‘jazz’ are meaningfully related tot the Arabic world. Because the majority of slaves brought to North America came from West Africa “That had been in contact with the Arabic-Islamic world of the Maghreb since the 7th and 8th centuries”.
Also a change of focus brings new opportunties. Instead of orientating on the anglo american jazz scene one could focus on Maghreb countries. Morocco for instance is an ancient crossroad of musical practices. Its wide range of festivals opens an old world of new opportunities. A discussion on the lively music scene in Morocco and its connections and why the cream of Moroccan musicians can be found in The Netherlands. And how to enter this challenging music world.
