WOMEX 18 organisers Piranha Arts and our local partners Mirmidón and Nordesía are pleased to open our annual call for proposals today.

This year, the World Music Expo will take place in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain, from 24 to 28 October 2018. All open-minded music professionals, from the world music community and way beyond that, are invited to make a proposal to perform as a showcase artist, DJ & producer, to present their films or spread their knowledge as a conference speaker or expert mentor. The deadline for proposals is Friday, 16 March, 2018.
We would be grateful if you spread the word amongst your readers, audience and network – we also invite you to consider putting in a conference proposal yourself!

Calling all Artists, DJs & Producers, Filmmakers, Industry Experts and Visionaries…
The WOMEX call for proposals addresses all open-minded musicians, film-makers and music experts from all over the world. Based on hundreds of proposals in each category, the programme is selected by an independent, international and annually changing jury, the socalled Seven Samurai (2018 jury to be announced in the coming days).
WOMEX is not only the most important meeting in the world music scene but the most diverse music meeting worldwide! Its musical spectrum is unparalleled in the international showcase festival scene, ranging from the most traditional to the new global local underground, embracing folk, roots, jazz, local and diaspora cultures as much as urban and electronic sounds from all over the globe – plus of course all musical juxtapositions of these.
WOMEX explicitly welcomes proposals from all backgrounds and especially encourages proposals which increase the diversity of the international music scene – a diversity of culture, region, gender and more.

Proposals can be made in four categories:

About WOMEX
WOMEX – the World Music Expo – is the most international music meeting in the world and the biggest conference of the global music scene, featuring a trade fair, talks, films and a showcase festival.

Over 2,600 professionals including 300 performing artists come together every October from more than 90 countries, making WOMEX not only the number one networking platform for the world music industry, but also the most diverse music meeting worldwide.

7 stages, 700+ exhibiting companies, 80 speakers, films, an opening concert and an award ceremony across five packed networking days and rather short nights.

Since 1994 WOMEX has been travelling all across Europe from Berlin (1994), via Brussels (1995), Marseille (1997), Stockholm (1998), Berlin (1999 + 2000), Rotterdam (2001), Essen (2002 + 2004), Newcastle (2005), Sevilla (2003 + 2006 – 2008), Copenhagen (2009-2011), Thessaloniki (2012) to Cardiff (2013), Budapest (2015), Santiago de Compostela (2014 + 2016) and Katowice (2017).

The 24th edition of WOMEX will take place in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in the Canary Islands, from Wednesday, 24 to Sunday, 28 October 2018.
